- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding codes to determine specifications and requirements for pipe welding projects.
- Set up and operate welding equipment, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), to join pipes according to specifications.
- Measure and cut pipes to appropriate lengths using various tools, such as pipe cutters and saws.
- Clean, prepare, and inspect pipes for welding, ensuring they are free from contaminants and defects.
- Fit and align pipes and pipe fittings together using clamps, brackets, or other holding devices.
- Weld pipes together using appropriate techniques and materials to create strong and secure joints.
- Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Repair or replace defective welds as needed.
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and welding codes.
- Ability to rig, assemble, solder, plumb, and maintain various types of piping systems.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of pipe systems, fittings, valves, and related components.
- Familiarity with codes, standards, and regulations related to pipe welding.
- Basic math skills for measuring, cutting, and calculating pipe dimensions.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
- Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues during the welding process.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- MUST be able to pass a welding test that will be x-ray inspected
