Job Description

The Director of Logistics is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of logistics and transportation operations. This role will manage the company’s growing freight operations, ensuring cost efficiency, high service levels, and scalability. The Director will develop logistics strategies, streamline processes, and lead a high-performing team to enhance supply chain efficiency and profitability. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

       1. Strategic Logistics Management

  • Oversee all inbound and outbound freight operations, including 3rd-party truckload & LTL carriers, inbound inter modal, import containers, parcel shipping, and regional fleet operations.
  • Optimize freight spend and logistics cost management, with a focus on reducing cost per mile and maximizing profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation, route optimization, and efficiency improvements.
  • Establish key logistics partnerships and negotiate carrier contracts for cost savings and service improvements.

 

  1. Fleet & Transportation Oversight
  • Oversee Fleet Manager of private fleet operations.
  • Ensure that fleet operates at maximum efficiency, minimizing empty miles and optimizing utilization.
  • Develop strategies for expanding the fleet as needed to support business growth.
  • Monitor compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations and safety policies.

 

  1. Freight & Distribution Network Management
  • Align inbound shipments with production needs and outbound shipments with customer demand.
  • Oversee carrier selection and performance monitoring for 3rd-party transportation.
  • Improve ability to track freight in real-time and provide accurate customer delivery estimates.
  • Work with the warehouse and production teams to improve inventory flow and freight scheduling.

 

  1. Leadership & Team Development
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing logistics team, including the Fleet Manager and future logistics staff.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and KPIs for the logistics team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, finance, and operations teams to align logistics with business goals.

 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Logistics Cost Reduction: Improve freight cost efficiency while maintaining high service levels.
  • Fleet Profitability: Maximize income from fleet operations while controlling expenses.
  • On-Time Delivery Rate: Ensure shipments consistently meet delivery timelines.
  • Fleet Utilization: Improve trailer load efficiency and minimize empty miles.
  • Carrier Performance: Maintain strong relationships and cost-effective contracts with 3rd-party carriers.
  • Compliance & Safety Score: Ensure fleet and operations meet DOT and FMCSA standards.

 

Job Requirements

  • Experience: 7+ years in logistics, supply chain, or transportation management, with leadership experience.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop long-term logistics strategies to support business growth.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Strong ability to analyze freight costs, fleet efficiency, and performance metrics.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven success in carrier contract negotiations and logistics cost reduction.
  • Technology Expertise: Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), GPS tracking, and logistics analytics.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA compliance and fleet safety best practices.
  • Preferred: Experience managing both private fleet operations and outsourced freight networks.

 

Additional Information

Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00m. Must work in office located in Yazoo City, MS.
