Essential Duties:
• Provides crisis intervention and advocacy to survivors and/or their families, including telephone counseling/crisis line assistance; assesses the victim’s immediate safety needs and helps victims and witnesses develop a safety plan.
• Assists survivors in receiving self-identified interventions and actions sought form the civil and/or criminal justice systems including support to survivors seeking relief through the courts, help survivors understand court actions, and provide information that enables the survivor in making informed decisions about court actions, decisions, or processes.
• Provides legal and/or medical advocacy to ensure that survivors have immediate access to an advocate who can assist the survivor to receive self-identified interventions including forensic medical exams, reports to law enforcement, advocacy, and counseling.
• Develops and maintains relationships with community agencies; conducts community outreach and education programs relating to domestic violence.
• Provide information and referrals.
• Provides transportation in agency owned vehicles, as needed for survivors.
• Provides basic education regarding the dynamics of domestic violence, dating violence, the impact on children, and non-violent parenting techniques.
• Assists survivors with goal setting, advocacy, referrals, and other assistance.
• Facilitates/Co-facilitates support or educational group sessions.
• Provides advocacy and follow-up as needed with outside agencies.
• Maintains accurate records and processes required paperwork in a timely manner and in accordance with funding sources and agency standards.
• Makes educational/informational presentations to community groups and interested parties.
• Assists with special projects and tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, SPECIALIZED TRAINING:
• Person must be a self-starter with a high level of attentiveness to detail. Possess outstanding customer service skills as well as excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Must be organized, efficient and detail oriented.
• Has an interest in working with survivors of domestic violence and interpersonal violence.
• Strong computer and typing/mouse skills and ability to learn the agency's database (Empower DB). Has the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Comfortable working in urgent and high energy work environment.
