Estimator/Drafter – Fabrication Shop
We are a well-established and growing fabrication shop currently seeking a qualified and motivated Estimator/Drafter to join our team. This dual-role position is ideal for someone who has a strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, excellent attention to detail, and solid experience using drafting and CAD software.
Position Overview:
The Estimator/Drafter will play a key role in both the bidding and production stages of our projects. You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for upcoming jobs and generating detailed shop drawings and part cut sheets for our fabrication team. Your work will directly impact project efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and overall customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements.
Create accurate and detailed shop drawings, part cut lists, and fabrication plans using AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor.
Revise drawings as needed to reflect design changes and ensure alignment with client expectations.
Maintain documentation of estimates and drawings for record-keeping and future reference.
Assist with material take-offs and selection based on project scope and budget.
Provide technical support to shop floor personnel during the fabrication process.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in estimating and drafting within a metal fabrication environment is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, and/or Autodesk Inventor is required.
Solid understanding of fabrication techniques and materials, especially steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of CNC programming or CAM software is an asset.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as welding, cutting, forming, and assembly.
Experience working with ERP or job tracking systems is a plus.
