Job Description

The Optician Technician role involves assisting the optometrist in delivering top-notch eye care services. This position encompasses clinical support, including pre-testing and patient preparation, as well as optical sales and technical assistance in frame and lens selection, adjustments, and orders. The ideal candidate for this position will be detail-oriented, dedicated to patient satisfaction, and adept at working in both clinical and retail settings.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Testing & Clinical Support:
    • Greet patients and prepare them for eye exams
    • Perform preliminary tests (autorefraction, visual acuity, tonometry, retinal imaging, etc.)
    • Record patient history and update medical records in EHR system
    • Assist with contact lens insertion/removal training
    • Maintain and sanitize exam rooms and equipment
  • Optical Sales & Support:
    • Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses based on prescription, lifestyle, and style
    • Take accurate measurements (PD, seg height, vertex distance)
    • Provide lens education (single vision, bifocal, progressive, blue light filtering, etc.)
    • Adjust and repair eyeglasses
    • Order and track eyewear and contact lenses; verify orders upon arrival
    • Notify patients when orders are ready; assist with fitting
  • Administrative Support (if needed):
    • Schedule appointments and manage recalls
    • Handle insurance verifications and billing support
    • Answer patient questions in person, by phone, or email
